Jacky Winter

Microeca fascinates

Description:

I am thinking that this is a bird that I have seen near the coast that fly's and glides like a swallow?

Habitat:

Through the Bushland, 5 minute drive to the coastal beach

Notes:

I am still not sure about this little fella of his name? A Jacky Winter leave it not unnamed.

I only saw them from a distance in the Hunter Valley last winter (appropriate) Had to use full zoom to get it too. They sure are cute little guys. We don't get them near Melbourne as far as I know.

Cheers Mark!
Was a bit fluffed up as well, as I just seen short Movie on one fluffing itself.
Have not really noticed or been close to one?

Jacky Winter looks fairly good to me. I'd prefer to see darker legs and tail and paler breast but maybe the SA version is different. Here's a central NSW M fascinans http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/372...

I don't think it's a Grey shrikethrush, because the bill is more like a seed eaters than an insect eaters. It still strikes me a robin-like.

My other thoughts are Dusky robin, or a female Flame robin.

I think you have a Jackie Winter, but I haven't seen one in person to know for sure. http://www.ozanimals.com/Bird/Jacky-Wint...
