Russula emetica

Description:

The russula emetica is also known as the sickener or vomiting russula. It has a red flat cap with a cuticle that can be peeled off almost to the center. The gills are white to pale cream and closely spaced. The names of this mushroom refer to the gastrointestinal distress they cause when consumed raw. Widely eaten in Russia and eastern European countries. Not recommended for eating

Habitat:

Sandy forest path, Forest Pond, Delaware Seashore State Park , Bethany Beach Delaware
