American pikas are considered sensitive indicators of climate change in alpine environments; however, it is unclear how climate is affecting pikas across their whole range. The Cascade Mountains host a unique subspecies of pika, yet no long-term monitoring programs exist in this region. We aim to provide valuable pika status and distribution data to scientists interested in the relationship between small mammals and climate change. We accept opportunistic observations of pikas in the Cascades (and in the Columbia River Gorge in particular), and are also recruiting dedicated volunteers to monitor a group of core sites for presence/absence.
