Aquaponics

Aquaponics

Many varieties of plants and fish will do well in an aquaponics system. Please post pictures of plants and fish that are doing well in an aquaponics system (preferably your own) and include a picture of the system as a whole so others can see the great diversity and bounty that is possible with this amazing technique. Pictures of complete and functional systems will hopefully inspire and motivate more people to try this healthy and sustainable form of gardening. Sign in to join mission

Aquaponics is a revolutionary gardening technique that merges horticulture (growing plants) with aquaculture (raising fish). While traditionally used as a soil-less system (hydroponics) as a deep water culture [DWC], nutrient film technique [NFT], or inert media (flood and drain/ebb and flow), they can also be used with soil so long as there is proper drainage. Aquaponics is completely organic, prohibiting the use of fertilizers, pesticides, fungicides, and herbicides out of consideration for the health of the fish and active bacteria cultures.
