ELRC Citizen Science Project
Welcome to our local mission. Together, we will explore the biodiversity in Rhodes University and it's surrounds.
This is a teaching mission that we are using to illustrate the use of citizen science approaches and tools as an environmental teaching and learning resource.
You will be participating first as students, and then reflecting on your experiences as teachers and environmental educators.

YOUR MISSION: DISCOVER AND DOCUMENT AS MANY ASPECTS OF THE RHODES UNIVERSITY ECOSYSTEM AS POSSIBLE
STEP 1: Get your group together and decide on a mission plan. We suggest that you start in the Botanical Gardens next to the Sustainability Commons.
STEP 2: Start taking pictures of the biotic components in your targeted area.
This will include plants, invertebrates and vertebrate species. You group may choose to focus on only one of these (for example, birds, plants or insects) or you may collect a sample of different elements of the ecosystem.
STEP 3: Take a few notes about each species you take pictures of - your notes should help you to identify the plant or animal once you get back to the classroom / your computer.
STEP 4: Upload your photos - you only need to upload one photo of each species you've taken pictures of.
STEP 5: Work together to try to identify the plant or animal in each of your pictures, and update their details on the Project Noah mission page.
