Description:

One common feature of prickly pears is the flat paddle shaped body that has relatively large spines that are spread about each part. They also have small spines that easily break off.

Habitat:

Common in the western United States and Mexico but also appears near the Great Lakes in Ohio and as far east as New England and as high north as southern Canada.
