Clement- You rock! You totally made my night. After researching in the right direction, these actually look like fairy shrimp, fresh water version of brine shrimp. :) It all makes sense now!! Thank you!!!
what youve got here is a type of brine shrimp. they spend their whole life swimming on their backs and feed on plankton. These are also sold as pet "sea monkeys"
