Ruby Crowned Kinglet

Regulus calendula

Description:

Ruby Crowned Kinglet, in willow type shrubs at the edge of our winter pond. Olive buffy color over all with black bar across base of secondaries. Pale eye ring, red crest on head.

Habitat:

per SIBLEY guide, common in wooded areas...nests in tall connifers in spruce woods; at other times found in low brush or deciduous woods.

Notes:

This is a life bird for me. I would have had no idea what I was even looking at, had he not flashed his bright orangish red crest.
