Description:

This is a common puffball for our region of the US Midwest. The outer skin is white to pale tan and ages to a rusty brown. The fruiting bodies are often pressed together on rotting hardwood logs as these are and, occasionally, softwood logs.

Habitat:

Hardwood and softwood forests.
