Desert Bird of paradise

Caesalpinia gilliesii

Description:

Small tree growing up to 10ft tall. It flowers repeatedly with clusteres on the ends of flower stems. Flowers are yellow with 10 long, brilliant red stamens standing out several inches beyond the petals. Leaves are very fine, alternate and compound.

Habitat:

Sun. Drought and heat tolerant.

Notes:

Originally from South America, but has made itself at home in Southwest.
