Orsotriaena medus is classified under the subfamily Satyrinae (the browns) of the brush-footed butterfly family Nymphalidae.Orsotriaena medus is divided into several subspecies based on their Geographical ranges. "Mandata" subspecies in known to be found in South India,Srilanka. It has a wingspan of about 45-55 mm and can be easily Spotted because it is shy kind of butterfly which does not fly higher or for long distances when disturber. Can be seen sitting on Grasses or small herbs
