Macaca silenus
Lion tailed macaque is an endangered species of macaque found only in few virgin tracts of forests in Western Ghats of South India
Tropical moist evergreen forests
Found in a group of around 30 members in Puthuthottam fragmented forests in valparai, Tamilnadu. We have seen the playing and eating around gua trees near stream close to the town. Also an important observation was regarding the territorial fight between a group of common macaque and this group of lion tailed macaque.
