Sphenomorphus maculatus
small forest skink
spotted near water in tropical rainforest, China (S Yunnan, SE Xizang = Tibet) Nepal, Bhutan, Tibet, India (Darjeeling, Andaman and Nicobar Islands), Bangladesh, Myanmar, Cambodia, N Thailand, Vietnam, Sunda region, Peninsular Malaysia, New Guinea
This little guy was snooping around my tent in Sai Yok National Park when I took these photos. The bright one is with the flash.
Do not worry Dan.. it is happening everywhere... new specie identification is less publishized...This is nice spotting.
Thanks Gee for correcting me. A guide at the park gave me the ID, I should have done more research to confirm it as correct.
I am unsure about the common name. Both Wikipedia and eol.org use "Spotted Forest Skink" but I know it as the "Streamside Skink", based on the book "A Photographic Guide to Snakes and Other Reptiles of Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore"
Mabuya multifasciata is a large, chunky skink with no black band down its sides. See here: http://eol.org/pages/791549/overview
