Hopper

Description:

The body is shield-like in shape...almost hexagonal. Dark triangle on back with two white dots; one on each shoulder. Wings extend beyond and form a transluscent inverted triangle.

Habitat:

House.

Notes:

We are currently having an infestatin of hoppers of many types...most are tiny and bite. This is usual for October when many used to die in the open flames of candles or earthern lamps (diya) put out for Diwali or in the traditional evening diya lit under the tulsi plant in the garden, outside the main door. Now, I have a powerful electric light on the road right outside my house that is a magnet for insects (the Drongo--Dicrurus macrocercus is feeding at night...a behavioural change that has taken place right in front of my eyes) and the hoppers did not die because people found it easier to string up cheap twinkling lights from China that have flooded the market. Net result? Insomniac drongos and hoppers in my mouth..ears and eyes.
