Lota lota

A cold water species at risk of great decline in Minnesota as a result of increased phosphorus loading and increased temperatures. It is a member of the cod family (Gadidae); known as ling and eelpout among others. Despite having a reputation for being ugly and slimy they are in actuality quite a beautiful fish.

Cold deep lakes, often associated with walleye. Will reproduce on shallow flats in the late winter months.
