Oregon ash leaf buds

Fraxinus latifolia

Description:

Very closely packed small buds arranged in circles on the twigs of the tree; they grow out into compound leaves.

Habitat:

Bottomland in mixed woods with oak.

Notes:

These things almost looked like a canker until we looked harder at the other branches and figured out that these sprout into the leaves.
