Description:

2-2 7/8" (51-73 mm) Above, orange with many black dashes and spots, black dot near FW base above hind edge; FW veins lightly scaled with brown. Below, FW resembles upperside but has silver spots near tip; HW disk cinnamon to chocolate-brown with silver spots, those near margin triangular, usually with narrow yellow inside triangles.

Habitat:

Wooded areas; open deciduous woods or coniferous woodlands; sometimes moist prairie meadows.
