Yellow-bellied Slider Turtle

Trachemys scripta scripta

Description:

This is a freshwater turtle that grows to about 11 inches in length. The have an oval shaped upper shell. Sliders have a brown, olive green and yellow coloring. Their lower shell has yellow and black markings.

Habitat:

They are typically found in Southeastern Virginia, in lakes ponds, rivers, ditches, marsh, bays, swamps. On a rare occasion they can be found in brackish water.

Notes:

Slider turtles eat a diet composed of algae, seeds, plants, insects, spiders, tadpoles, and fish. My son found this turtle when we were at his grandparents house. This turtle was slightly larger then a quarter. 3:45 on September 20, 2014 Erica Brime
