Varanus sp.
Hi FelixHanschke and welcome to Project Noah. I have been studying your two picture of Monitor Lizards in Thailand as i would like to see the nostrils but they are not clear enough. There are 2 Monitor species common in that part of Thailand.
1. The Water Monitor has its nostrils near the tip of its snout, is usually quite dark in colour and can be quite long, up to 2.3 metres.
2. The Clouded Monitor has its nostrils half way between the snout and the eyes, is usually pale brown or grey with yellow spots and only grows to 1.5 metres
When you make a spotting you can look out for these features and add what you saw in the description field..
You can also note the habitat you saw the organism in and add that information into the habitat field. The Water Monitor wall be in or near water while the Clouded Monitor can often be found in drier habitats.
If you see two examples of the same species in the same place on the same day you should add them both to the same spotting and add in the notes how many you saw.
Please take some time to read through our FAQs which explain in more detail how to create a spotting and add information to it. http://www.projectnoah.org/faq
Finally, I think both of these are Water Monitors (Varanus salvator) but would like to see the nostrils to be 100% certain.
