Description:

Small tree with grey to brown bark, smooth when young with small scales when older.

Notes:

Leaves contain considerable amounts of tannin and have been used as a substitute for oak bark in tanning leather. The drupes, when crushed in water, produce a cooling drink. They also produce a black dye.
