Common Barklice

Cerastipsocus venosus

Description:

A bunch of insects clustered on a tree. They look like some sort of fungus until you get very close. The rear/underneath wings are translucent and papery, and the top wings (elytra?) are hard like beetles'. Top wings are short, while underneath wings extend well beyond insects' bodies. They are brachypterous adults.

Habitat:

Smooth tree trunks. They eat lichen. These were at Sandy Creek Park, in Athens, GA.

Notes:

Thanks for the ID help :)
