Nephila pilipes
about 5" legtip to legtip
It can be found in Japan, China, Vietnam, Taiwan, Singapore, Myanmar, Indonesia, Thailand, Laos, Philippines, Sri Lanka, India, Papua New Guinea, and Northern Australia. It is commonly found in primary and secondary forests and gardens.
I spotted this near Tuy Hoa at a popular local spot to hike and picnic along a rocky river.
Thanks bayucca, I think you're right. I've spotted this type of spider a few times over multiple trips to Asia.
Obviously Pilipes was formerly called Nephila maculata. YOu anyway have to check my suggestion.
