Unknown Spotting ( A True Fly )

Description:

A True Fly: I went downstairs, and I saw a small fly, resting on the side of the sink, in the lavatory. This insect, was three eights of an inch long, and two eights of an inch wide. It had a head, thorax, and an abdomen. It had two, large, black, compound eyes. It had two, very short antennae. It had two, transparent wings, with wing veins. It had a couple of black areas, on each wing. It had six, jointed legs. The abdomen, was dark gray in color, and was segmented. It had medium gray lines, running horizontally across the abdomen, separating each abdominal segment. Its legs was made up of dark and light colors. Black and medium brown colors. It's thorax, was a reddish brown color. True Flies: Are insects of the order Diptera. They fly using only the forewings, as the hindwings are reduced to club like sense organs, called halteres. Diptera: "two wings". The order Diptera, includes all True Flies. True Flies, have only a single pair of wings. Adults of many species of True Flies, are strong fliers, and this helps them to locate food, for there larvae. True Flies, go through complete metamorphosis. This True Fly was alive, and able to move and fly.

Habitat:

True Flies, live everywhere on earth, except Antarctica and deserts, where there is no running water. They can be found in hot springs, stagnant water, rain barrels, tree holes, groundwater zones, and of course, streams and rivers, and even waterfalls.
