A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Caloplaca sp
probably a species of lichen, found in the Andes Mountains, Argentina. But, according information from Noah members, it could be an algae: Trentepohlia (sic), or a symbiotic variant.. I am an agronomist for profession, Brazilian by birth, but don't have the necessary knowledge, or labs, or equipment for get farther in investigations. But I have a camera, and thousands of photographs, and love nature. For this I am here, and want to collaborate with Noah Project.
..It was just the beginning of winter (May), and we were in Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego. We take a tour inside the mountain, at the edge of Lake Argentino, were we took a barbacue meal. Aroun us there was not just one, but other species growing in tree crusts.. This one called my attention.
Just when we are there, all Nature has turned white, with the fall of the first snows of the season. Too much humidity. Not so much Sun, inside the forest formed by conifer trees. In Brazil we live in a tropical country. All these features (snow, mountains, glaciers, ice) are something new for us. But Argentina is a country where research on Nature is solid, and certainly they have information to share with everyone interested in Nature.
