A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Lasius interjectus
There is a rather Large Colony of these living in one of my older compost piles that has been left to nature for the last five years. (mainly horse manure) This is one of the workers I happened to get a photo of after a day of fertilizing the gardens and getting ready for more planting.

I will get some new spottings up for you soon of the other ant species we having on the property, I don't know the names of the species, however, I am certain between us we will be able to come up with the id's for each. :0)
Haha.. I know... must did such hard work... I forgiven many good shots as saw them on very deep cliffs here. I can not follow them on risky places. Due to large amount of dry leafs in deciduous forests they do not locate here easily on grounds.
It took a long time to get this shot without getting on my hands and knees, I am going to monitor the colony to see if I can get photos of the swarm when it happens in the next month. :-) I will try to get better photos then using my 50mm fixed focus lens. I shot this at about 4ft using my 55-250mm lens.
Nice one...How much you follow her.. to get better shot?
These are called citronella ants because they give off the smell of the mosquito repellent candles when squished.
