White tail Deer

Odocoileus virginianus

Description:

Brown in summer and tan in winter, this graceful animal displays the white underside of its tail when running away, hence the name.

Habitat:

In this case, a mixed Pine/Hardwood forest in the Ridge and Valley area of Georgia.

Notes:

Saw this deer (one of many at the park!) along the Whitetail trail that can be picked up at the Park Office. The deer at the park will allow you to get very close but they're still smart enough to keep a safe distance.
