Carolina Green Anole

Anolis carolinensis

Description:

Green or brownish lizards (colors can change slightly) not more than a couple inches long. Males have brightly colored under throat which they expand and contract to attract females. Tails can become detached to distract predators.

Habitat:

Fence post outside the Visitor Center (there were actually two running on the fence and hiding among the plants)

Notes:

I often find these beautiful lizards on fences and large rocks. They can frequently be found along the path to the log cabin behind the park office.
