Texas Clematis

Clematis texensis

Description:

Herbaceous, slightly woody, vine growing up to 2.7 meters. Flowers are shaped like a bell and bloom only out of new growth. The flower petals are think, like leather, and have scarlet sepals. Hair-like plumed seeds form after bloom.

Habitat:

Drought tolerant and extremely hardy. Ideal conditions sunny in rocky calcareous soil.

Notes:

Native only to the southeastern Edwards Plateau in Texas.
