Physomerus grossipes
Physomerus grossipes Fabricius, 1794. Wikipedia describes it as follows: "Brown in color with black legs, individuals grow to be about 2 cm (0.79 in) long. Like other Coreidae, P. grossipes is oval-shaped with segmented antennae, a numerously veined forewing membrane, a metathoracic stink gland, and enlarged hind tibia."
Spotted in our garden, a fairly large infestation feeding on Sweet Potato Plants (Ipomoea spp.)
Wikipedia also points out that the females of this species guard their eggs and young nymphs to defend them against predation. I have taken some pictures of this and will upload a spotting dedicated to this significant maternal behaviour as soon as I have a spare moment.
