Northern brown snake

Storeria dekayi dekayi

Description:

Nocturnal species, very secretive. Nonvenomous. They grow between 8-13 inches.

Habitat:

Found in my friend's driveway in a semi-wooded residential area. Found throughout Maryland, though I've never seen one before.

Notes:

Escaped a bluejay's capture by hiding under a trash can. I got to snap a photo before the bird could return.
