Description:

Foliose lichen. Shiny greenish-brown, adpressed lobes with shallow notches at apices. Under-surface is black with simple rhizines, light-brown at edges. Isidia are coralloid or simple, more regular in shape than those of M. subaurifera. Apothecia are occasional, discs red-brown, the margins often becoming isidiate. The apothecia are green when very hydrated as it is the case.
