Slaty Skimmer Dragonfly

Libellula incesta

Description:

About 5 inches long, gold & brown stripes on abdomen, one spot on the outer edge of each wing. Looks a bit like either a gold-winged skimmer or a Needham's skimmer, and both are listed all over New Engalnd, EXCEPT for CT.

Habitat:

Got a class AA stream a 1/4 mile away, extensive wetlands & vernal pools in forest behind me (200yd - 1/2mile), and a 200 gallon koi pond. These dragons are all over my yard every year.

Notes:

Any help on species ID would be appreciated!

Nice series! I am suspecting that this is an immature male Slaty Skimmer, Libellula incesta.

Golden-winged Skimmer and Needham's Skimmer both have yellow on the wings, which yours lacks.
