Wyoming Ground Squirrel

Spermophilus elegans

Description:

These ground squirrels are about 30 cm in length. Ears are large for ground squirrels and the eyes have a faint eye-ring of white. Fur on the back is brown with gray on the shoulders, neck and head. The sides and stomach are yellowish.

Habitat:

Typically lives in mountain meadows and talus slopes up to about 1500 meters in elevation. They may also be found in sagebrush and shrubby grasslands in valleys.
