Gentoo Penguin

Pygoscelis papua

Description:

Gentoo penguins at Mikkleson Harbour, Antarctica

Notes:

Same as all other penguins, gentoos are rather clumsy on land. But once they are in the water, things change rapidly (unless they are caught by leopard seals). The tracks on the hills are commonly referred to as "penguin highways".

Wonderful series! I'm jealous of your "vacation"...or do you travel like that for work?
