Yellow Ginger

Hedychium flavescens

Description:

Yellow ginger grow on average to about 6-8 feet. It's leaves are long, green, smooth, oblong and have major veins running parallel to each other. The yellow ginger's flowers have 3 pale yellow petals each. I estimate that about 3-5 flowers grow per plant. This plant's stem texture is rough and is formed by leaf sheaths.

Habitat:

Yellow ginger grows in agricultural areas, rainforest, moist natural forests, planted forests, riparian zones, urban areas and along roads. I found this group of yellow ginger behind D building. It spans the whole the Eastern side of the building. There is a walkway about a yard to the west. When I saw the yellow ginger, it was overshadowed by the building.

Notes:

The Hawaiian name of yellow ginger is 'awapuhi melemele. Goo-P3
