These are 'sea wash balls', the egg cases of the common welk. Each capsule holds about 10 tiny welks- this set looks hatched. : )
I wonder too! They were spongy and had been washed in from the sea. Some kind of eggs maybe?
This is quite mystereous; I wonder what it is?
