Aphid Wasp

Psen erythropoda

Description:

This wasp is a type of stinging wasp. They are beneficial insects, helping with aphid control. The female lays an egg on an aphid, the larva hatches and burrows inside of the aphid and consumes it from the inside. It then pupates inside of the aphid and emerges from what is left (pretty much an aphid looking shell).

Notes:

This small wasp was attending to some roses when I was visiting family in VA in April.
