Redbud Tree (after flowering)

Cercis canadensis

Description:

The more familiar pink-purple buds that most people think of for Redbud trees mature into summer like this. The seed pods are purple-brown and hang about 3 - 4 inches (7-10 cm) in clusters. The leaves green up this tree and make it a favorite for the little birds up to BlueJay size, to use as perches to sing and eat their seeds on.
