Black Kite or Pariah Kite

Description:

Medium-sized. Colour of dark chocolate, this kite is also an urban scavenger well known for snatching food from unsuspecting fingers (no scratch though!). Forked tail.

Habitat:

These birds are common. This one was spotted on the Bhadra Fort (built in 1411).

Notes:

Called Cheel in India. It has a piercing scream leading to the idiom Cheel chitkar (shout).
