Ardea herodias
The Great Blue Heron is the largest of the North American herons. The head, chest, and wing plumes give it a shaggy appearance. They appear blue-gray from a distance. They have long yellow legs, a thick, daggerlike bill and black stripe over their eye. They fly with very slow wingbeats, tucked-in neck and trailing legs.
Took off from a back pond at Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge and flew over the marshes to a front pond.
