Swamp mallow, Swamp rose mallow

Hibiscus moscheutos

Description:

Showy white blossoms

Habitat:

Plentiful in the road ditches in the Hell Hole Swamp area of the Francis Marion National Forest in Berkeley County, South Carolina. This is a low country or coastal plain area--mixed Carolina bays, pine savannah and cypress swamps.

Notes:

I'm wondering if this is some type of wild or feral hibiscus? It looks much like an ornamental plant that was identified by the person giving it to me as an "old-fashioned hibiscus."
