Is it native to Virginia (hence it's name)? It's invasive in southern California and is found in the wild. Hard to get rid of

No virginia creeper is not poisonous. It's in the grape family "Vitis" and has leaves in groupings of 5. But it is commonly confused with poison ivy which has leaves in groupings of 3.

In the second picture (of the fence), looks like you do have poison ivy growing in the top left. Although not always correct, it's safe to say here... "Leaves of three let it be!"
