Sorry Aaron! I should focus more on the category, I should and could have changed myself.

Life is for grinning and enjoying! Nice pictures and fine wines make it even better, beside other things and I think we two know what else...

Grinning here Bayucca. I would love to buy you a coffee, soda, or even a nice glass of wine and then sit down with you and go over what we photographed while out exploring together. I would love for that to happen someday.

Let's say, I would never bet my ranch on this one, but I would be delighted to invite you to a glass of delicious wine and you pay the soda, OK?
My laptop is also very small and the low and reddish light make it not easier. I think we should ask Liam, he is our birdmaster. If I loose I pay wine, soda AND coffee!!

Bayucca, I can see reasons for suggesting either spotting. The females of both of these species are rather similar. The lighting on the photos and the less then perfect focus leave me scratching my head, that and the computer I am using is a small laptop. I would agree it is fun to discuss ids between friends. I think you stand a better chance at being correct, on this id, but would you want to put money down on this one? I sure would not want to bet that it was either unless it was for a coffee or a soda.

Willie it is never too late to learn and I am still in a learning process. I would never feel direspected if somebody questioned my ID! In my eyes shouldn't have Lineatum more brown/reddish on the upper part and some kind of two-colored body? I know that Mexicanum is quite common in Tortuguero, I seen there some during my stays, however, never and adult one. And I must admit as well, that some of the Mexicanum pictures looks more grayish than brownish/creamy. What do you think?
And: It is always very exciting to discuss IDs between friends, isn't it??

Bayucca, you are probably correct on your id, this does look like a tiger heron to me, my thoughts are it could be one of two Tiger Herons. The pictures do not allow for a perfect Id, in my mind. The could also be the Rufescent Tiger Heron Tigrisoma lineatum. Please know I meant no disrespect to you Bayucca

Hi Willie, don't you think my ID is already quite exact?? ;-) ... I know you know a lot about birds.

This is some type of Heron as Bayucca has already stated, I wish I could give you its exact id.

Definitely a Heron and I think it is Tigrosoma mexicana, commonly seen in Tortuguero, my favorite place in Costa Rica. It is the adult bird. In younger ones you know immediately why they are called Tiger Herons.
