A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Spotted by Adam Kerr on January 30, 2015. This plant is short in terms of stature with long and prickly leaves. It is most commonly found in densely wooded areas in close proximity to various types of trees. The prickled ends of the leave serve as a sort of defense against predators and indicate that this is not an optimal plant species for consumption. A loose structure gives a vine like appearance in places, yet this species is similar to many types of briars. This species is well adapted to colder climates and can fare well even in extreme winter conditions.
A deciduous forest in eastern Virginia. This plant does well in mild and colder climates in heavily wooded forests and among shrubbery.
