North American River Otter

Lontra canadensis

Notes:

Was stumbling down a slope and was concentrating on my footing, when I got to the bottom I saw this ball of fur zoom past me. I must have walked by not 2 metres past this little guy (or girl). He (she) jumped into the water and made sure to give me an angry glare for interrupting his (her) sunbathing before swimming off at a leisurely pace. The section of shore where I had found him (her) was strewn with scat and the large jawbones of northern pike, walleye.

After the incident with the mink (see mink photo) I learned to always have my camera at the ready.
