Moth cocoon

Description:

Around 8cm long & almost 2cm wide. My work-mate rang me this morning & told me what he'd found. I raced over to his home to find this beauty. Is it a moth or butterfly? Is it ready to be born? I'm unsure of these questions. It moved when we touched it & I could make out it's eyes & what looked like wings & a thick segmented body. My friend has his video camera set up to film its 'birth'. He travels to Italy for holidays soon, so he will pass it on to me if it hasn't by the time he's left.

Habitat:

This was found in the ground whilst digging, not on a tree or structure. I thought this was just amazing!

Wonderful! Thank you Nuwan! I really hope my friend doesn't miss the birth. I'd love to see it :)

A moth cocoon (Sphingidae), dark color indicates it's ready to born!

Sorry I didn't know how to edit the movie, but you can see it move!
