Fidler Crab

Uca pugnax

Description:

Small crab, approx 1" Male: White body with 1 large, red claw and one small claw Female: White body with 2 small claws Both male & female have 8 legs and 2 claws.

Habitat:

Marsh, Wetlands, Bogs

Notes:

How the fiddler crab got it's name: Male fiddler crabs have 1 large claw and 1 small one. For males to attract a female they wave their claw to and fro(as seen in my two pictures). This action looks as if the crab was 'fiddling'.
