Wood Turtle

Glyptemys insculpta

Description:

Dark in color (brown/black) with bright red-orange or yellow-orange on their legs and neck. Black blotches on the plastron. This one was about 9 to 10 inches long. A large adult male (concave plastron).

Notes:

We got this guy out of the road back in 2008. For a wild turtle, he wasn't very shy at all! Very curious about us, in fact. I've seen several road-killed wood turtles in my area over the years. Their numbers are said to be in decline.
