Gourds

Description:

Small green and yellow gourds hanging from dried vines in the trees. Some vines still had green leaves, buds and flowers. The flower is large and white (last picture). The little gourds were about 6 cm long.

Habitat:

Heavy shrubbery along the highway between San Cristobal de Las Casas and Tuxtla Gutierrez, km 11.5, 865 meters.

It sure does look like pictures of the gooseberry! These however were on vines, not bushes and were much larger and hard. (I wish now I had cut one open). Next time! The gooseberry is supposed to have thorns on the plant and this one didn't have thorns.
