Aquilegia
I saw this beautiful flower in Marie Antoinette's garden in Versailles, France a few months ago. One photo is of a magenta/white and one of a lavender/white.
Garden in France
Thank you so much! I loved it when I saw it, but I had never seen anything like it before.
Aquilegia plants have very unique blooms and seed heads like the ones in your photo. Wikipedia: "The genus name Aquilegia is derived from the Latin word for eagle (aquila), because the shape of the flower petals, which are said to resemble an eagle's claw." The leaves are usually round and lobed. Often the leaves have a blue green cast. There are many combinations of colors with single and double blooms. This is one of my favorite plants.
